A Halloween Micro Wedding at Das Bevo | April & Michael

Some couples want a wedding that follows tradition. Others look at the usual wedding rules and think, Why?

April and Michael definitely fall into the second category.

Their Halloween micro wedding at Das Bevo in St. Louis was colorful, relaxed, wonderfully weird, and completely their own. They encouraged their guests to dress up, and most happily did. Even April and Michael changed into their own costume-inspired outfits before the reception, turning the evening into much more of a party than a traditional wedding.

And that’s one of the things we love about micro weddings.

A Wedding That Feels Like You

Micro weddings have become increasingly popular, and it’s easy to see why. A smaller guest list can help keep costs under control, while allowing couples to focus on the people who are actually closest to them rather than feeling obligated to invite everyone they’ve ever known.

But perhaps the biggest advantage is freedom.

With fewer people and fewer expectations to manage, couples have more room to make the day feel like them. You don’t have to follow every wedding tradition simply because that’s how weddings are “supposed” to be.

April and Michael leaned all the way into that idea.

They got married on Halloween, invited their guests to come in costume, and changed into their own Halloween-inspired outfits for the reception. The result was an incredibly fun and relaxed celebration where everyone seemed genuinely happy to be there.

A Perfect Setting for a Halloween Wedding

Das Bevo was an especially fitting choice. The historic Bevo Mill building dates to 1917 and was originally built by the Busch family as a stop between the Anheuser-Busch brewery and Grant’s Farm. Add a room full of Halloween costumes and it becomes something pretty special.

The photographs are filled with personality: masked couples, sparkly costumes, kids running around with lightsabers, colorful reception lighting, and plenty of dancing. There are beautiful traditional wedding photographs, too, but everything has a little more character than usual.

And that’s what stands out most about April and Michael’s day.

It wasn’t just a Halloween-themed wedding. It felt like their wedding.

They spent the day surrounded by the people closest to them, without worrying about what a wedding was supposed to look like. There was time to enjoy their guests, have fun, take some fantastic portraits, and simply be themselves.
